On September 20, my class and I were given a piece by George Ella Lyon called “Where I’m From”. It talked about his past and little things he remembers. In my daybook, I took it as my roots and where my ancestors came from. I talked about my mom’s side of the family because they’re more interesting. My mom’s grandfather came to America on a boat from Romania and her grandmother was from Ireland. I love that my family is so diverse.

  1. Wow, that does sound pretty interesting! When we read the same poem in class I chose to do a similar entry into my day book. However, my entry was a lot less interesting. I didn't really have anything to say that was a bit entertaining. I talked about literally "where I'm from" which isn't that entertaining!

  2. Wow ou are very diverse Josie! and yes this piece intruiged me too! Your roots are so important. Its cool how you thought about your own family history and what is important to you besides just focusing on the text itself. :))))

  3. When I wrote in my daybook I wrote where I am from and it's not very interesting at all. I wish I would have wrote about where my ancestors are from. I think my mother is 100% German and my father is a mix between a bunch of european countries.

  4. Hey Josie! I find it interesting how you decided to look at your ancestral roots. I take my strength, when I'm lacking it in everything else, in where my family comes from. We have Cherokee, British, French, Canadian, Celtic, and much more in our blood and I find that I take pride in that everyday. Because, no matter what, we are they're legacy and I always feel as if they're proud of me and that they're always with me.

  5. I tried doing this assignment also, but I could never just come up with anything that was good. I wish I knew where all my family was from. That is cool that you actually know when and where your family is from. I am pretty sure that my family is from Ireland, but I am not 100% sure about that. When I wrote where I was from I wrote more about where I was born and raised most of my life.

  6. Your family history is really neat, my grandparents came from Italy straight off the boat too, and I loved hearing a lot of their stories. Coming from such a diverse family probably comes with amazing stories and traditions.
